MOONSEA MADNESS (D&D 5E)


Started: early 2021, I joined June 2021, currently active

Synopsis: a home-brewed campaign with the heroes chasing divine artifacts left during the Time of Troubles on behalf of the Aegis Arcana. The action started around the Moonsea region of the Forgotten Realms, but has taken the heroes into Corymr and Sembia as the mysterious Cult of the Shadowmoon begins to reveal their influence over the region.

Player-Characters:

TYRANNY OF DRAGONS (D&D 5E)

Started: November 2021, currently paused

Synopsis: In an audacious bid for power, the Cult of the Dragon, along with its dragon allies and the Red Wizards of Thay, seek to bring Tiamat from her prison in the Nine Hells to Faerûn. To this end, they are sweeping from town to town, laying waste to all those who oppose them and gathering a hoard of riches for their dread queen. The threat of annihilation has become so dire that groups as disparate as the Harpers and Zhentarim are banding together in the fight against the cult. Never before has the need for heroes been so desperate.

CURSE OF STRAHD (D&D 5E)

Started: July 2023, currently active

Synopsis: Two sisters find themselves trapped in the mysterious land of Barovia, ruled over by a vampire lord the locals call "the Devil Strahd". This gothic horror adventure lets the players choose their course through the various locations in Barovia, finding weapons and allies against the powerful ruler who resides in the ominous Castle Ravenloft.

    • FRONTIER FORAYS, FEATURING PHANDALIN'S FINEST (D&D 5E)

    Started: April 2022, concluded October 2024

    Synopsis: When my group of regular players can't all make one of the two 'official' campaigns above, I offered to DM a series of loosely connected one-shot sessions regardless of how many can make it. To keep things simple, I have mashed together the two starter campaigns of Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak, with an NPC representative from the Lord's Alliance as the patron for whatever motley crew of adventurers show on the day.

    Player-Characters:
    • Wick - custom lineage elf, Hexblade warlock / Divine Soul sorcerer
    • Terach - half orc, Path of the Totem Warrior barbarian  
    • Wiggity - custom lineage gnome, Circle of the Moon druid

    PHANDELVER AND BELOW: THE SHATTERED OBELISK SOLO (D&D 5E)

    Synopsis: Prior heroes of Phandalin, Atreox and Regan, are joined by two new mysterious heroes in the beloved town of Phandalin, where growing corruption plagues the town. Discover what lurks below...

    RIME OF THE FROSTMAIDEN SOLO (D&D 5E)

    Started: December 2021, completed November 2023

    Synopsis: a tale of dark terror that revisits the forlorn, flickering candlelights of civilization known as Ten-Towns in Icewind Dale and sheds light on the many bone-chilling locations that surround these frontier settlements. The exploits of Harald Jarlsson in this campaign serve as story background for his son, Sigurd Jarlsson, to idolise his father over.

    RANGER OF THE NORTH (THE ONE RING: STRIDER MODE)


    Started: started October 2022, concluded March 2024

    Synopsis: an Oracle-guided, freeform, solo campaign using The One Ring 2nd Edition core rules. Luindîs is a seasoned Ranger of the North who grew up in the Lone-lands of Minhiriath to ranger parents protecting the small fortified and isolated hamlets in the region. As the numbers of the rangers dwindled, Gilraen (mother of Aragorn and de-facto leader of the Rangers), bid the rangers to come to her in Rivendell, that she might personally motivate and direct their energy to protecting the weak against the Enemy.

    Talisman 5th Edition review - does a hit of nostalgia equal a smash hit?

      2nd Edition - the Talisman I grew up with. 5th Edition - the Talisman my kids are growing up with. So I was excited when Hasbro relaunched the classic board game franchise with a 5th Edition back in July 2024.     Worlds to explore - my favourite content

Actually, I've been running more Dungeons & Dragons sessions than I expected, and that doesn't leave a ton of time for other parts of my hobby. This year, I resolved to preserve my favourite content for my two boys in case either (a) reliance on digital media and their complicated rights management somehow removes access to these, or (b) gulp, I am not around to see them grow up, and I want an easy way for my wife to expose them to it. You can see how I structured this in my  first content preservation post . Spoilers - it is expensive and a lot of work. Having secured the majority of the content on my list, I turn now to how I want to introduce my sons to it at the appropriate age, with the presumption that I am not here to do so personally.
